On Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, over 400 Scouters from the five boroughs participated in the Greater New York Council's kickoff for the Scouting year, known as the “Steakout," which was attended by several Troop 240 leaders. There were numerous vendors and events, but the high point of the event was the attendance of Scouting's Chief Scout Executive, Mr. Robert Mazzetta. He addressed the crowd on the direction that Scouting will be taking over the next several years, to our 100th anniversary, and beyond. The main focus was to "re-educate" the American public about Scouting, and what we are really doing. This was received with great enthusiasm by everyone.

Troop 240 Scouts, once again prepared a tremendous cooking demonstration that was very well received by the Scouters in attendance. The Scouts attending were Kevin B., Russell L., Patrick B., and Gabriel L. They prepared a Guadalupe chili pie, chicken pot pie, mac and cheese with bacon, and a foil meatloaf. Everyone, including the Chief Scout Executive, was very impressed with our Scouts knowledge and preparation of the items. The event was a resounding success, and once again, Troop 240 Scouts were recognized as models for others to emulate. -- Joe Acquafredda, Troop 240 Scoutmaster.
