| This was a one night overnight tenting on a sandy beach off of the ocean, a surf fishing expedition, and an 8 mile hike. It was a long trip to Montauk Point and we stopped to eat breakfast at a restaurant called MTK Cafe. Traveling was a little confusing but we reached our destination. We began our hike in the Montauk State Park and missed the blazes a couple of times. We all had a thirst to finish so that we could begin camping on the beach. When we arrived at out camp site we chose a good beach spot and started unpacking. James N. was the first to jump into the ocean to retrieve a Frisbee that had drifted off. We had tons of fun with fishing, swimming, setting up camp, eating, and building our fire. We ate steak, hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, and smores which were made in an open fire built by the Scouts. We didn't catch any fish, but still had a good time fishing. Many people suggested that we camp there again. It was almost 11:00 pm when James N., Michael N., and Chris T. went swimming. Patrick B. was so cold that he wore his sweater under his jacket. The fire at night was the best ever. An enormous thank you to our Lady Trekmaster Ellen Beltran, and a big thanks to the Scouters who helped to make this outing possible: Dino Forzano, Rick Zeidler, and Chris Browne. We could never have done this without you. This will definitely be an outing to remember, and never forgotten by Scouts and Scouters alike. -- James N., Troop Scribe. |
