| Participants: Kids: Sean B., James N., Michael N., Adam W., and Erik Z. We started out from RPC on this unusual August day with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's, a perfect day for a hike. On arrival to the Mohonk Mountain House and Preserve, we traveled up to the hotel, a beautiful and historic mountain retreat built in the 1890's on a sparking glacial lake. This hike took us on carriage roads, rock cliffs and rock scrambles. We first hiked along the western shore to the Humpty Dumpty Road which led us along rock cliff lines to our first rock scramble, The Giant's Workshop. After climbing, sliding, squeezing and twisting our way through this scramble, we hiked down the Plateau Path to Zaidee's Bower for some more scrambling. After a much needed lunch break, we hiked out to Laurel Ledge Road and on to Old Minnewaska Road. This led us back to the eastern shore of Mohonk Lake where we hiked up back to one last scramble (for the boys) up the Labyrinth and back to the hotel. After a stop at the Picnic House for some cold treats, we headed home. -- Ellen Beltran, Troop Committee Member, and Hike Guide. |
