The Troop 240 "Hiking Club" Hike # 5 took place on April 9, 2007: The Old Croton Aqueduct from Ossining to the Croton Reservoir and back.

We started out 11 strong: Michael For., Gabriel L., James N., Michael N., Dominick P., Stephen R., Michael S., William W., Adam W., MF's Aunt Chris and myself. The weather was cool and sunny and after getting a bit lost in Ossining, we found our way to the Ossining Visitor's Center. After a wait getting parking passes we finally embarked on this 11 mile trek. The trail took us across the Double Arch Bridge, past 2 Weirs, 4 Ventilators and to the foot of the mighty Croton Reservoir. Along the way, we hiked past homes and businesses as the Aqueduct runs through the area. (What a dream for walkers, hikers and runners, falling out their backdoors onto this trail!) The park, at the base of the reservoir, was beautiful; a great place to be in August when the falls can cool you off by 20 degrees. After a lunch at the reservoir, we traveled back on our path to the Visitors' Center where we toured the facility which gave historical information about the aqueduct and Sing Sing Prison, a nearby Correctional Facility.

All in all a great experience, with 3 hikers completing their 5-10 mile hikes and 2 new hikers, all performing well. A special thanks to Aunt Chris and congratulations to all! -- Ellen Beltran, Troop Committee Member, and Hike Guide.
