| For the new parents, SM Joe Acquafredda explained what a Court Of Honor was. Then he began the Court with the presentation of Year Pins for service to Scouting. Twenty-nine year pins were presented with Matt Aronberg getting his 6 year pin. Next came the merit badges with 41 of them being given out. Justin Andreadis, Martin Boyle, Jonathan Carr-Malatzky, my brother (Michael N.) and myself had earned 4 each. Thirteen rank awards were presented next: 6 Second Class, 5 First Class and 2 Life Scout badges. Specialty awards came next: 1 One Mile Swim, 5 Firem'n Chit and 1 Totin' Chip. New job warrant certificates were then offered to the new youth leaders. The ribbons for third, second and first place in the patrol points competition came next. These points were accumulated from September, 2005 to August, 2006. In third place was the Panther Patrol with 698 points. Next came the Falcon Patrol with 721 points. The winner was the Sons Of Liberty Patrol with 752 points. Finally, the Troop was presented with the Outstanding Camping Award by the Greater New York Council. We are only the third unit to receive this in New York City and the only one to receive it in the Bronx Council. As the Scoutmaster stated, the awards first go to the individual Scout, then to their Patrols and finally to the Unit. This is the way of Scouting. Ten new boys attended this event of which we hope many of them will become part of our Troop. -- James N., Troop Scribe. |
